PROPOSED HOUSING PLANS FOR NORTH SOMERSET HAVE MAJOR IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PARISH OF BROCKLEY
Residents will no doubt be aware of our government's drive to significantly increase housing provision throughout the country in an effort to address the severe housing crisis.
Unitary Authorities / District Councils are under a great deal of pressure to find sites to accommodate the huge numbers of additional homes required by the government.
North Somerset Council (NSC) has been working in conjunction with the other three West of England authorities (Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset) to produce a Joint Spatial Plan (JSP) for the region for the period 2016 - 2036. The Draft JSP has been produced and is currently being reviewed. The Publication version is due to be submitted to the Secretary of State in Spring to be followed by examination by the Planning Inspector in mid 2018 with adoption anticipated in the latter part of this year.
As a result of both the JSP and a directive from the Inspector looking at the Core Strategy, NSC have been required to bring forward the reviewing of its long term planning strategy. This has resulted in the publication of a draft Local Plan 2036 (see links to documents, below). The timetable for this is expected to be a consultation of the Publication version in Spring 2019, examination by the Planning Inspector in mid 2019 and adoption in late 2019.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE PARISH?
Within the JSP and Local Plan, are proposals for:
1. Approx. 700 homes around Grove Farm, west Backwell - to include a Primary School and new road from a roundabout to be positioned on the A370 between the current Chelvey Road intersection and Chelvey Batch to join up with a proposed Metrobus link between Nailsea and Backwell. Around 25% of this development, including the school, will fall within the parish of Brockley boundary.
2. Approx. 3,300 homes in the vicinity of Youngwood Lane and Engine Lane, south west Nailsea
